Food Drive for St. Vincent De Paul

RVMS art students were asked to create posters for the
St. Vinent de Paul Food Drive in Marion County.
Although we had a little bit of a late notice,
the 6th grade art classes really buckled down and created some very colorful
posters.
The Food Drive ends Wednesday November 25th. Donations can be dropped off at Mathews or McDaniels Car Dealers!
The posters were delivered to the Marion Public Library! Please stop by and see those that are displayed!

Oldenburg Inspired Food Sculptures

We began building bases for our food sculptures out of recycled cardboard and newspaper.
Once the base was built the paper mache mess began!
Original ideas quickly changed as the paper mache evolved over the bases.
Once the paper mache was dry, painting began.

What's Important in a Poster?

After learning about what makes a great poster, all RVMS 8th graders designed a poster
for the United States Power Squadron Annual Poster Contest.
Students were required to complete their posters on a 15"x20" piece of paper; One of their biggest projects to complete yet.
Students also had to have a graphic that conveyed their intended message!
They did great!
Just a sneak peek of a few entries...

Rain Barrel Fun!

We have painted all kinds of things this year in the RVMS ArtRoom! We care currently painting 4 different rain barrels for the NOW (Northern Olentangy Watershed) Festival June 20th

The barrels will be raffled off on the 20th in Mingo Park during the festival.

We are STILL working hard in the RVMS ArtRoom!

Occasionally on Friday, we spend a few minutes drawing a topic from Illustration Friday
Then we spend a few minutes sharing art work. It is interesting to see many different solutions to the same prompt.
I have been impressed with students' willingness to share their art work and why they chose to complete the project in that way!

Now that Mother's Day has passed, I can share the colorful flower pottery that the 6th grade completed!

This was the first time that students had worked with clay and a ceramics project,
they turned out beautiful! And I hope all of the recipients enjoyed them!

Welcome RVMS 6th Grade back to ART!!!

It has been a crazy, crazy switch into the 3rd trimester here at RVMS.
We now have 6th graders in the Art Room everyday!
And it has been exciting (And challenging since there are 178 of them)!

6th graders are working a radial name design in class right now!

They are using the color wheel to color and complete their projects.

They are also learning how to upload and edit their art work to  our Artsonia School Gallery.
Please take a look at their great work!

You want me to talk about WHAT?

Being the Art Teacher is great!
Normally!
One of the hardest things that I need to teach my students is how to respond to art work with something other than, "That's Cool!"

Using a game often referred to as Token Response students were introduced to a number of famous and not so famous artworks.  They were also given 8 different tokens to place on the artwork.
Tokens ranged from a heart to represent like, to a dollar sign that represented which artwork they thought would cost the most.

Placing tokens.

Discussing artworks and sharing ideas (Which happened a lot!)

And finally sharing why they made the choices that they did!

As an introduction to art criticism, these 7th graders did great!
